The directive was given in a statement, which Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor's spokesperson issued on his behalf.

The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf  has directed the Nigeria Police Force to arrest the former Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero.

The directive was given in a statement, which Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor's spokesperson issued on his behalf.

The governor accused Ado Bayero of creating tension in the state and attempting to forcefully return to the palace after his dethronment.

The statement reads: “The former Emir was smuggled into Kano city last night in an attempt to forcefully return to the palace two days after being deposed by the Governor.

“As the Chief Security Officer of the state, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has directed the Commissioner of Police to arrest the deposed Emir with immediate effect for disturbing public peace and attempting to destroy the relative peace the state enjoys.”

It was learnt that the 15th Emir returned to Kano late hours of Friday.

SaharaReporters had also reported how the Governor on Thursday officially approved the reappointment of former Central Bank Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II, as the Emir of Kano.

This was announced by the Senior Special Assistant on Digital Media to the state governor, Kwankwason Tuwita on X.

The aide had also shared a video which captured the moment the Governor assented to a newly passed bill that abrogated four emirates created in addition to the Emir of Kano.

The emirates were created under a controversial law in 2019 by the administration of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

“I have approved the reappointment of Khalipha Muhammadu Sanusi II as the emir of Kano,” the Governor was quoted by his aide.

It was learnt further that the governor also issued a 48-hour notice to all the deposed Emirs to vacate royal palaces in the state.

SaharaReporters had earlier reported how the State Assembly passed a bill dissolving the establishment of the additional emirates.

The bill is titled, "The Kano State Emirates Councils (Repeal) Bill, 2024."

The new law abrogated the creation of the emirates created in 2019 and the restoration of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the Emir of Kano Emirate.

The law was first amended in 2019 amid a rift between then Governor Ganduje and Sanusi, a former Central Bank Governor.

The first amendment broke the Kano Emirate into five with the creation of Rano, Karaye, Gaya and Bichi emirates, and the appointment of first-class emirs for the new emirates, eventually culminating in the deposition of the then-Emir of Kano.

The victory of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in the last election had renewed calls for the reinstatement of Emir Sanusi. Ahead of the election, Yusuf promised to restore the old Kano Emirate system.
