The Nigerian government had plotted to smuggle the deposed emir into the palace at night, causing tension in the area.

The deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Bayero, has occupied the famous Nassarawa royal residence after a failed attempt to occupy the main emir’s palace at Kofar Kudu.

The Nigerian government had plotted to smuggle the deposed emir into the palace at night, causing tension in the area.

This had prompted the reinstated emir, Muhammad Sanusi II, to immediately return to the palace in the wee hours of Saturday in company of Governor Abba Yusuf, his deputy, Aminu Abdussalam, and other government officials, according to Daily Nigerian.

Backed by armed security personnel, the deposed monarch arrived at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano at about 1:30am on Saturday, prompting mixed reactions from the people.

SaharaReporters had reported that soldiers and heavy security personnel were sighted at the Kano Emir’s Palace in an alleged plot to give cover to the deposed emir, Aminu Bayero, as he was set to return to the palace on Saturday morning.

SaharaReporters also earlier reported that the Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, directed the Nigeria Police Force to arrest the former Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero.

The directive was given in a statement, which Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor's spokesperson issued on his behalf.

The governor accused Ado Bayero of creating tension in the state and attempting to forcefully return to the palace after his dethronment.

The statement reads: “The former Emir was smuggled into Kano city last night in an attempt to forcefully return to the palace two days after being deposed by the Governor.

“As the Chief Security Officer of the state, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has directed the Commissioner of Police to arrest the deposed Emir with immediate effect for disturbing public peace and attempting to destroy the relative peace the state enjoys.”
