Two Women Electrocuted In Lagos During Downpour As Lightning Sparks Fire Outbreak

No fewer than two women were confirmed dead by the Nigeria Police Force in First Avenue, Festac in Lagos State after a heavy downpour on Friday.

He wrote, "May their souls rest in peace. Somewhere on First Avenue, Festac, two women remained indoors during the downpour yesterday. Lightning struck, electrocuting them instantly and causing a fire outbreak. They lived in a shanty built under high-voltage wire.” 

 

 

The Lagos State government had confirmed the eviction of squatters living under a bridge towards Dolphin Estate in the Ikoyi area of the state over illegal settlement and environmental violations.

 

The eviction was done on the 1st of May, 2024. 

 

Kunle Rotimi-Akodu, the Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who made this known had said that 23 persons were arrested. 

 

Rotimi-Akodu had said that the eviction and the arrest were carried out on Tuesday by officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), popularly known as KAI.

 

“Squatters dwelling under the bridge leading from inward Dolphin Estate, Ikoyi were evicted today Tuesday, 30th of April, 2024 by officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps LAGESC (aka KAI),” he said.
