11-Year-Old Girl, Two Others Killed In Lagos Collapsed Mosque, Seven Injured

Three bodies including the corpse of an 11-year-old girl were recovered from the rubble of a collapsed mosque in the Mushin area of Lagos State on Sunday.

Earlier in the day, the spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin on X, said only an 11-year-old girl had been found dead following the incident and that others who sustained varying degrees of injury had been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Giving an update on Sunday evening, the Permanent Secretary of Lagos Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Femi Osanyintolu in a statement said three bodies had been recovered from the rubble.

He said the affected buildings “had been levelled to ground zero”.

He said, “Following an extensive exercise, the final casualty report on the above incident is that three fatalities and seven casualties varying in severity.”

 

“Responders at the scene of the incident include the agency’s response team led by the PS, LRU Fire unit, Lagos State Fire Service, LASBCA, NEMA, Nigeria Police, LNSC, FRSC, and LASAMBUS.”

 

Building collapse is common in Lagos State and many of them are tragic.

 

SaharaReporters reported that at least 61 buildings collapsed across Nigerian states in 2022.

Lagos State topped the list with a record of 20 incidents, according to the Building Collapse Prevention Guild (BCPG) report.
