SaharaReporters had reported that the Kano State House of Assembly on Thursday passed a bill titled ‘The Kano State Emirates Councils (Repeal) Bill, 2024,’ dissolving the establishment of four additional emirates created by then-Governor Abdullahi Ganduje's administration in the state.

Some Kano State residents on Sunday stormed the streets to reject the dissolution of emirates and the subsequent sacking of five emirs by Governor Abba Yusuf’s administration.

The new law abolished the creation of the emirates and restored Sanusi Lamido Sanusi – who was deposed in 2020 – as the Emir of Kano Emirate.

A group of protesters on Friday stormed the Presidential Villa and the National Assembly in Abuja with placards to protest against the abolishment of the emirates and dethronement of five emirs.

They called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the crisis to avert a breakdown of law and order in the state.

However, some protesters on Sunday stormed the streets of Gaya, one of the five emirates affected by the repealed Kano Emirates Council Law, to reject the dissolution of the emirate, according to Daily Trust.

The protesters displayed placards and chanted anti-government slogans, alleged injustice.
