The state governor, Abba Yusuf, earlier ordered immediate action against all forms of public demonstrations in the state over the emirate tussle.

The Kano State Police Command has vowed to enforce the ban on protests in the state.

The state governor, Abba Yusuf, earlier ordered immediate action against all forms of public demonstrations in the state over the emirate tussle.

The order was given in a statement issued by the Governor’s Media and Publicity Director, Sanusi Bature, on Wednesday, saying he was exercising the authority vested in him as the chief security officer of the state.

The state police command in a statement on Wednesday said it “will ensure the state government order that bans all forms of protests is being implemented with all sense of vigor as any person found will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly”.

The state police commissioner, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, called on all residents of the state “to remain patriotic and obey the order issued by the state government”.

“Finally, the CP reaffirmed that joint security personnel have already been put on red alert to deal ruthlessly with any person who attempts to disrupt the peace in the state,” it added.

There have been protests in Kano streets since the dissolution of emirates and the subsequent sacking of five emirs by Governor Yusuf’s administration.

SaharaReporters had reported that the Kano State House of Assembly last Thursday passed a bill titled ‘The Kano State Emirates Councils (Repeal) Bill, 2024,’ dissolving the establishment of four additional emirates created by then-Governor Abdullahi Ganduje's administration in the state.

The new law restored Sanusi Lamido Sanusi – who was deposed in 2020 – as the Emir of Kano.
