Suspected Terrorists Kidnap 26 Persons, Rustle 200 Cattle in Niger State Communities

Some suspected terrorists, locally dubbed as bandits, have abducted no fewer than 26 people and rustled over 200 cattle from communities around Tungan-Kawo in the Shiroro local government area of Niger State.

Malam Sani Abubakar Ibrahim Koki, co-convener of the Concerned Shiroro Youths of Niger State, told SaharaReporters that the gunmen systematically moved from one community to another, picking victims and catering away hundreds of cattle. 

 

He stated, "They abducted over twenty people from our communities and stole over two hundred cattle. We are at a loss with what is happening to us. When will the state government come to our aid?"

 

SaharaReporters also gathered that attacks, killing and kidnapping of the locals happened on a daily basis, yet there was no help.

 

Confirming the incidents, Hussani Ibrahim, the Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), told newsmen, "We also are in receipt of reports of persistent banditry activities at Shiroro and Mashegu Local Government Areas." 

 

He further disclosed the specific attacks: "On Sunday, 2nd June, a village called Adogo Mallam was attacked and six persons were kidnapped. Again, yesterday, 3rd June 3024, Tunga Kawo communities located 3 kilometres away from Erena of Shiroro LGA were also attacked. During the attack, over 20 persons were kidnapped with hundreds of cows rustled."
