The Nigeria Police Force has denied reports that a group of gunmen in military uniform kidnapped a Divisional Police Officer at the Okokomaiko Station in Lagos State.
According to the viral claim, it was alleged that the DPO was kidnapped around 8pm when he lodged at Afromedia hotel in Okokomaiko, Ojo area of the state.
“Just in...Dpo okokomaiko division Lagos was kidnapped by group of armed men in military camouflage uniform in his Afromedia hotel room at about 2030hrs of 04/06/2024.pls diseminate the news to enable men on patrol be on red alert,” a viral post on Wednesday claimed.
However, in his reaction to this development, the state police spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin said the report of the abduction was untrue.
He wrote: “We wish to debunk the rumor making the rounds that a Lagos DPO was kidnapped. There is absolutely no truth in this claim.
“The said DPO is in his office, carrying out his duty of ensuring safety of lives and property within his area of responsibility.
“We sincerely thank all those who called this morning out of concern. We appreciate the concern. We indeed feel loved and promise to continue to discharge our duties professionally.”
