He has already reached out to the President, using "emissaries" to beg the President for forgiveness for past mistakes, it was learnt.

A former governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, is lobbying President Bola Tinubu to make him an ambassador, SaharaReporters has learnt.

He has already reached out to the President, using "emissaries" to beg the President for forgiveness for past mistakes, it was learnt.

SaharaReporters gathered that Fayemi, a former Minister of Solid Minerals, had gone to beg President Tinubu at the Aso Villa with some governors and former governors to consider him for an appointment.

The people who went with Fayemi to beg the President, are former Governor of Kebbi State and current Minister for Budget and Economy Atiku Bagudu, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Minister of Defence Abubakar Badaru.

A source who spoke to SaharaReporters said: "Kayode Fayemi mobilised these governors to beg Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to forgive him. He wants to be an ambassador.

"They held a political strategic meeting today with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Aso Rock Villa which is not limited to his lobbying for an ambassadorial position."

Fayemi on January 2, 2024, boasted that he wouldn’t beg President Tinubu for an appointment.

The former governor, who spoke then in an interview with Citizen Rapporteur, said he would not be making unsolicited calls to President Tinubu to lobby for possible opportunities to join his cabinet.

When asked why he wasn’t part of the administration, the former chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum said, “I worked for the party and the president, and don’t forget that I wanted to be president too.

"So walking away from governance or politics is not going to happen. When I was stepping down, I made some remarks that I have known President Tinubu for over three decades and he knows that in or out of office, I will always be there to support his government.

"But I am not one of those who will make unsolicited calls on him. If he calls for me, I’ll answer the call.

“We saw at COP28 and at some point, he pulled me aside to discuss some things, particularly our challenges in Ondo, knowing my relationship with the governor and I gave him my own perspectives and advice. So, I’ll always be here to offer services from the background. His presidency is our collective responsibility in APC.”

However, repeated efforts to reach the former governor on his mobile line failed as it was not reachable.
