President Bola Tinubu’s administration has advised its citizens to avoid drug, human trafficking and other vices to enhance the strength of the country’s passport.

The country’s immigration service (NIS) stated this in response to a post made on X (formerly Twitter) by a Nigerian who claimed to have travelled to more than 30 countries with his passport.

“Traveled to a little over 30 countries, many in Africa, with my Nigerian passport. No issues. I don't hate myself. I do not hate Nigeria,” Ade of Nigeria @Hammdriller wrote.

Quoting the posting with a retweet, the immigration said, “Louder, for those at the back. The strength of our passport and how we are perceived within the comity of nations, amongst other factors (emphasis), largely depends on you and I.

“We are the first Ambassadors of our country! To this end, we strongly advise Nigerians to avoid irregular migration, trafficking of persons, cultism, drug peddling and other forms of vices that dent the image of the country.”

“Nigeria will be great, but first, we all must play our parts individually and collectively!” it added.

According to the Henley Passport Index for 2024, Nigerian passport ranks 95th alongside Iran, Lebanon and Sadan with access to 45 countries.
