Fayoade vowed to sanction protesters who undermine the fundamental rights of others and freedom of movement on Wednesday.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade, has assured Lagos residents that the Command has implemented adequate measures to secure lives and property, ensure the free flow of traffic, and maintain a peaceful environment for lawful activities.

Fayoade vowed to sanction protesters who undermine the fundamental rights of others and freedom of movement on Wednesday.

The threat comes in response to reports of protests scheduled for Wednesday, June 12, 2024, which could disrupt commercial activities and traffic.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that Nigerian civil societies, including the Take-It-Back Movement, African Action Congress party, and others, have planned a mass nationwide protest on June 12 against hardship and hunger under President Bola Tinubu's government.

They blame the removal of the fuel subsidy for the skyrocketing prices of goods and services, making life unaffordable for average Nigerians. The groups accuse the government and its associates of corruption and living in luxury while citizens suffer.

They urged Nigerians to join the peaceful protest to demand systemic change and reclaim their country from exploitative elites.

A statement signed by the spokesperson for the state police command on Tuesday, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said, " This assurance is necessitated by news making the rounds about protests scheduled for Wednesday, June 12, 2024, an action capable of impeding commercial activities and free flow of traffic.

“The Command will fulfil its mandate of ensuring that no person or group of persons undermines the fundamental human rights of others, especially the rights to dignity of persons and freedom of movement.

“Consequently, CP Fayoade warns that any protester found violating the rights of other Nigerians will be sanctioned in accordance with the law.

“Once again, CP Fayoade enjoins all law-abiding Lagosians to go about their duties without fear of harassment or intimidation, as adequate security assets have been strategically deployed to ensure their safety and security.”
