The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has apprehended three people involved in a sophisticated scheme to manipulate the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) computer systems.

In a recent joint briefing by the NPF and JAMB, the authorities had assured the public of heightened measures to combat the proliferation of fraudulent JAMB registration portals and forged admission documents.

According to the police, in a statement, Effa Leonard Mpama (34), Ibang Ernest Jerome (38), and Eshiet Odotukana Benson (38) allegedly collaborated to unlawfully access JAMB's Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) and e-facility.

The police said their alleged illicit activities included falsifying genuine admission letters, enabling fraudulent admissions into universities and eligibility for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said, "Upon their apprehension, the suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement. They disclosed details implicating others in the acquisition of candidates' personal data and manipulation of CAPS links sourced from insiders at Calabar JAMB Computer Based Test (CBT) centres.

"Digital forensic experts identified a syndicate based in Imọ State operating a network of counterfeit domains and websites to facilitate their illegal operations.

"The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, warned about the severe consequences of cyber fraud while commending the NPF's National Cybercrime Centre for leveraging technological advancements in protecting Nigerian citizens.

"The suspects are expected to face charges under relevant sections of the Cybercrimes Act, 2015, as investigations progress towards their conclusion."
