The NIDCOM boss said the girls, most of whom are from Imo State, were accompanied by representatives of the Imo State government including the Deputy Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly, the Imo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and NIDCOM staff.

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCom) has said that the 10 Nigerian teenage girls who were allegedly trafficked to Ghana for prostitution have been rescued and returned to Nigeria.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman of the NIDCOM, who made this known in a post on her X platform handle on Friday night, said the rescued girls were received in Lagos on Friday and profiled by officials of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).

The NIDCOM boss said the girls, most of whom are from Imo State, were accompanied by representatives of the Imo State government including the Deputy Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly, the Imo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and NIDCOM staff.

Recall that the girls, all of whom are said to be under the age of 18, were reportedly lured from Nigeria to Ghana by a man whose name had not been revealed but had reportedly been arrested by the police in a neighbouring West African country.

“Update on rescued girls from Ghana. The girls arrived Lagos accompanied by the reps of the Imo State Governor (the deputy Speaker and the Comm for Women Affairs and Nidcom staff. They were received and profiled by officials of NAPTIP,” Dabiri-Erewa posted on X.

She further revealed that the girls were rescued by the Nigerians in the Diaspora Organisation (NIDO), an umbrella association for Nigerians living in Ghana.

Speaking in a video on the rescued girls, a NIDO official said, “We just rescued all these ones from one single person, innocent Nigerian children that were brought here to do what they wouldn’t have wished to do.

“They are helpless. They picked them and sent them to do prostitution and they would be collecting money from these innocent children.”
