French Football Federation confirms that Kylian Mbappe, the 25-year-old captain of France, suffered a broken nose during the Euro 2024 match against Austria on Monday.

The injury occurred when Mbappe collided with Austrian defender Kevin Danso's shoulder while competing for a header, resulting in a painful blow to his nose. Despite this setback, France emerged victorious with a 1-0 win.

Mbappe was replaced by a substitute in the final minutes of the game and subsequently departed the stadium in an ambulance to receive further medical attention and undergo X-ray examinations.

"Kylian Mbappe suffered a broken nose during the second half of the Austria v France match," a statement from the federation said.

It said Mbappe was treated by the medical staff and that radiological examinations at the Duesseldorf hospital confirmed that he had suffered a broken nose.

It added that Mbappe “is back in camp with the rest of the squad and will undergo treatment in the coming days without undergoing surgery immediately".

France's upcoming match against the Netherlands on Friday has been thrown into uncertainty as Kylian Mbappe's injury casts doubt on his availability, dealing a significant blow to France's chances in the highly anticipated clash.

The FFF noted that a “mask will be made so as to enable the number 10 of the French team to consider resuming competition after a period of treatment”.
