A passenger train has derailed in Russia's Komi Region, leaving up to 70 injured.

 

Nine cars of train 511 jumped the tracks between Vorkuta and Novorossiysk, with no fatalities reported, according to Russian Railways and RT news.

The train derailed at 6:12 pm Moscow time, near the town of Inta, with the exact number of casualties still unknown; authorities have not yet confirmed any fatalities, and an investigation is ongoing to determine the extent of the damage and any potential losses.

 

“Emergency services have been dispatched to the scene. Measures are being taken to assist passengers,” Russian Railways said on Telegram. “Information about the victims is being clarified. Traffic on the section has been suspended.”

 

The North-Western Transport Prosecutor's office has initiated a criminal probe into the train derailment, while Vladimir Uyba, the head of the Republic of Komi, has rushed to the scene to personally oversee the response efforts and assess the situation.
