President Tinubu Approves Upgrade Of Ibadan Domestic Airport To International Status

Governor Makinde announced that he will travel to Abuja to obtain the necessary documents to move forward with the project, promising that construction will begin as soon as the paperwork is complete.

President Bola Tinubu has approved the upgrading of Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan, Oyo State to an international airport to pave the way for increased economic development and regional integration.

 

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State disclosed this on Wednesday, while receiving the Chief of Air Staff of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Air Marshal Hassan Baba Abubakar, who was on a courtesy visit to Governor's Office at the State Secretariat in Ibadan.

 

The Governor said, "The President has graciously approved my request for Ibadan airport to be upgraded."

 

Governor Makinde announced that he will travel to Abuja to obtain the necessary documents to move forward with the project, promising that construction will begin as soon as the paperwork is complete.

 

He outlined the project's scope, including the expansion of the runway and the construction of a new terminal, and revealed that a team has been established to oversee the project's implementation.

 

According to him, the airport upgrade will boost the economy of the state.

 

Governor Makinde solicited the input of personnel of the Air Force in the state to ensure that the project meets the required operating standards.
