The Borno State Police Command had confirmed that eight people were killed and 15 others injured following a bomb explosion in the Gwoza Local Government Area of the state.

President Bola Tinubu has strongly condemned the recent bomb attacks in the Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of lives and injuries inflicted on innocent citizens.

In a statement released on Sunday by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, President Tinubu characterised the attacks as "desperate acts of terror" and a clear indication of the ongoing pressure against terrorist groups.

"These cowardly attacks are a grim reminder of the challenges we face in our fight against terrorism," President Tinubu stated.

"However, they also underscore the success we have achieved in degrading the capacity of these terrorists to launch large-scale offensives."

The President assured the nation that those responsible for the violence would face justice swiftly, emphasising that such attacks would not plunge Nigeria into an era of fear and instability.

"The purveyors of wanton violence will face a certain encounter with justice," President Tinubu affirmed. "My administration will not allow our nation to be held hostage by fear, tears, sorrow, and blood.

“These attacks are isolated incidents, and we are committed to ensuring they do not disrupt our collective peace and progress."

President Tinubu reiterated his government's dedication to enhancing security measures across the country, pledging to redouble efforts to safeguard citizens from further harm.

"We are taking necessary steps to secure our citizens and ensure that those who threaten our nation, take innocent lives, and disrupt law and order are decisively dealt with," the President said.

President Tinubu concluded by extending his condolences to the victims of the attacks, their families, as well as the government and people of Borno State, urging national unity and vigilance in the face of adversity.

The Borno State Police Command had confirmed that eight people were killed and 15 others injured following a bomb explosion in the Gwoza Local Government Area of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso said the tragic incident occurred on June 29, 2024, at approximately 15:40 hours.

"A woman carrying a baby detonated an Improvised Explosive Device IED at a busy motor park in Mararaba T. Junction in Gwoza town.

"The explosion claimed the lives of the woman, her baby, and six others, with fifteen individuals who sustained injuries currently receiving treatment at General Hospital Gwoza," the police said.

The incident occurred at a wedding was held on Saturday at Tashan Mararaba near the Fire Service in Gwoza town.

A military source in Gwoza reported that the female suicide bomber crossed the road near the military base and detonated an IED, resulting in the death of several people, including a soldier.

It was learnt that the terrorists reinforced and returned to the 192 Brigade but Nigerian Army troops successfully repelled the attack.

However, the bomber identified as a young mother in her twenties pretended to be a guest at the wedding.

While trying to bury the deceased, another bomber disguised as a mourner detonated an IED at the burial site, killing one person.
