Prof Bichi, during interview with newsmen in Katsina on Tuesday, alleged that some of the university’s staff were serving as informants to the bandits.

The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA), Katsina State, Prof Armaya’u Bichi, has accused some staff of the university of aiding bandits attacks in the school.

Prof Bichi, during interview with newsmen in Katsina on Tuesday, alleged that some of the university’s staff were serving as informants to the bandits.

“This issue of informants is worrisome, therefore, we investigated those we are suspecting of giving out their colleagues and students’ information,” Bichi was quoted by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He continued: “We have found them, and handed over their contacts to one of the security agencies for further investigation.

“But we have not heard anything from the securities. These suspects are our staff. We have strong reasons for accusing them of being informants to bandits,” the vice chancellor revealed.

Reacting to the situation, the Police Command in the state said that they were not aware of such an issue but promised to further investigate the matter.

The command’s spokesman, ASP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, who reacted, called on the public to always assist them with information that would end the security.

SaharaReporters had previously reported several incidents of bandit attacks in the university.

A staff of the university, Dr. Tiri Gyan David was recently murdered by bandits.

The bandits have also reached out to his widow, demanding a ransom of N300 million in exchange for the release of their two abducted children.

David, who was the Head of the Department of Agricultural Economics, Extension and Rural Development, at the Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA), was gunned down last week by bandits who abducted two of his children in Katsina State, northwest Nigeria.

SaharaReporters on July 2, 2024, reported the tragic incident and the abduction of the children.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday at his residence in Yarima Quarters, low-cost estate in the Dutsinma Local Government Area of the state.
