Kano House Of Assembly Passes Bill To Create Second-Class Emirates
July 16, 2024

After the second and third reading of the bill, the Deputy Speaker, Muhammad Butubutu, moved for its adoption and passage during its plenary presided over by the Speaker, Jibril Falgore.

The Kano State House of Assembly on Tuesday passed a bill into law for the establishment of 2nd class Emirates in the state.

It was learnt that the first reading of the proposed law commenced during the plenary session on Monday.

The passage of the law was announced in an X post shared by the State Governor's Media Centre.

The post reads, "Kano State House of Assembly has passed a bill into law for the creation of 2nd class Emirates: Rano Emirate: Rano- Bunkure, Kibiya, Karaye Emirate: Karaye- Rogo and Gaya Emirate: Gaya- Ajingi, Albas."

After the second and third reading of the bill, the Deputy Speaker, Muhammad Butubutu, moved for its adoption and passage during its plenary presided over by the Speaker, Jibril Falgore.

The new second-class emirates to be created include Rano Emirate: Rano-Bunkure, Kibiya; Karaye Emirate: Karaye-Rogo; Gaya Emirate: Gaya-Ajingi, Albasu.

It should be recalled that the Kano State Government had been embroiled in an Emirship tussle for two years with Emir Muhammad Sanusi II and Aminu Ado Bayero contesting the position.

SaharaReporters had earlier reported how Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu of Kano State High Court 17 last Monday issued a perpetual order restraining Aminu Ado Bayero and four other dethroned Emirs from Bichi, Rano, Gaya, and Karaye emirates in Kano State from parading themselves as Emirs.

Justice Aliyu also prohibited Bayero and the four others, along with their servants, associates, and any appointees from parading themselves as Emirs of Kano, Bichi, Gaya, Rano, or Karaye.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration had filed a case requesting the State High Court to stop Bayero and the other four Emirs from Karaye, Bichi, Rano, and Gaya from parading themselves as Emirs.

The government also gave the dethroned Emirs 48 hours to vacate their respective palaces after being deposed.

However, Justice Aliyu stated that the eviction issue concerning the dethroned Aminu Ado Bayero from his Nasarawa palace is a matter for the Rent Tribunal and should not be before her court.

The judge directed the dethroned Aminu Ado Bayero and the four others to promptly hand over all the Emirate Traditional Royal Artifacts to the government and the current Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.
