The Kogi Unity Forum has expressed strong disagreement with the state government's position on the planned protest against governance issues in Nigeria.

At an emergency meeting in Lokoja, the youth group discussed the state government's statement cautioning against protests and encouraged fellow youths to exercise their right to peaceful assembly and expressed their grievances regarding perceived impunity and mismanagement.

Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi State had issued a stern warning against any attempt to disrupt the prevailing peace and security in the state through violent protests. Addressing youths and student leaders in Lokoja, the governor emphasised his administration’s resolve to protect lives and property.

Comrade Ayo Adeyemi, the forum's spokesperson, emphasised that peaceful protest is a right that cannot be taken away by any government and called on Kogi State youths to disregard the government's warning.

Adeyemi emphasised the importance of good governance and noted that Kogi State youths are eager to participate in the demand for better governance.

He expressed no surprise at the government's stance, citing concerns about Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo's past actions, including the use of his immunity to prevent the arrest of his predecessor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The forum called on the governor to facilitate Bello's surrender to the EFCC and warned of protests at the Government House if their demands are not met.

"We are not going to succumb to any threat as we prepare for our lawful protest in the state," Adeyemi said.
