EXCLUSIVE: Edo Governor Obaseki In Twilight Of Administration Spends N1.1billion On Furniture In Three Months, Nothing On Erosion, Flooding

Under its project description “Furniture and fittings” the state spent N1.1billion as of the first quarter of 2024.

A review of the Edo State budget performance documents by SaharaReporters has shown that the state government led by Governor Godwin Obaseki, spent N1.1billion on purchase of furniture in the first three months of 2024.

Under its project description “Furniture and fittings” the state spent N1.1billion as of the first quarter of 2024.

The state budgeted to spend N2.2 billion on chairs in the 2024 fiscal year and already expended N1.1 billion as of the first quarter of the year.

This development comes even as the state spent N203million on refreshment and meals in the first three months of 2024.

A total of N739 million was earmarked for refreshment and meals for the whole of 2024.

This is also as the state did not spent any money for its ministry of water resources capital expenditure. The Ministry had an earlier budget of N1.030billion.

Only N5million was spent on the ministry of environment and sustainability by the state. In the first three months of the year, the state spent nothing on its erosion, flood and watershed management agency.

It is unclear why the state government spent a whopping N1.1billion on chairs in first three months of 2024.

Efforts to reach the Senior Special Adviser on media to Governor Obaseki, Crusoe Osagie, proved abortive as he did not pick calls nor return messages sent via text and WhatsApp as of the time of this report.
