The protest is expected to last till August 10.

The Kwara State Police Command and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have heightened security measures in anticipation of planned mass protest by youths on August 1, 2024.

The protest is expected to last till August 10.

Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, the state police spokesperson, stated that the command is on high alert, with measures in place to prevent any disruption of law and order before, during, and after the planned protest.

The goal is to avoid a repeat of the #EndSARS riotous protests in any part of the state, Toun said.

Ayoola Michael, NSCDC spokesman, added that the command has developed strategies to manage the protest peacefully and maintain order. This includes deploying additional personnel to key locations across the state to ensure a secure environment.

"Adequate measures will also be in place to protect critical national assets and infrastructure that may be at risk due to criminal elements who might exploit the protest to engage in destruction and vandalism of essential facilities.

"We will coordinate closely with other security agencies to ensure effective response to any incidents, managing the protests peacefully and preventing any potential escalation," he said.

In a display of heightened security, police in Ilorin, the state capital, have intensified patrols on major streets and established checkpoints at strategic locations, indicating a visible show of force. This increased security presence is likely a precautionary measure to maintain law and order in the area.
