Ondo ADC Gov Candidate Backs #EndBadGovernance Protests, Insists Nigeria’s Future Hinges On Active Participation
July 30, 2024

According to him, Nigeria is desperately in need of a judiciary that upholds the law and serves the people, not one that enables corruption.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Ondo State, Myson Adeyemi Nejo, Esq. has disclosed that the future of the country hinges on Nigerians’ active involvement in the planned protest against the prevailing hardship, hunger, and bad governance.

Myson Adeyemi in a statement issued on Tuesday called upon the youths of Ondo State to step forward and make their voices heard, adding that their participation is crucial.

He explained that the government must be held accountable to its citizens, stressing that it is their responsibility to protest if public officer fail in their duties.

The governorship candidate asserted that the judiciary, which should be the bastion of fairness and justice is currently being questioned due to the lack of transparency and consistency in its judgements. According to him, Nigeria is desperately in need of a judiciary that upholds the law and serves the people, not one that enables corruption.

He said, "As we approach the day of the planned significant protest being the 1st August 2024, I wish to convey my unwavering support for this vital movement. Our nation stands at a pivotal juncture, and it is imperative that we unite to demand accountability and justice from our government.

"Our constitutional right to peaceful protest is a cornerstone of democracy, and I am in full support of this cause. This is our opportunity to ensure our voices are heard and to advocate for the changes we urgently need.

"The African Democratic Congress (ADC) will participate in the protest because we cannot permit Nigeria to devolve into a one-party state with incessant breakdown of law and order as revealed in several unpalatable political developments.

"The recent extension of the Inspector General of Police's (IGP)'s tenure is a blatant misstep. The IGP position is a career appointment, not a political one. The bill facilitating this extension was passed without the necessary hearings, undermining our democratic processes.

"An IGP who was due for retirement has had his tenure extended, exposing the systemic flaws within our governance. Such decisions are unacceptable, and I will soon be instituting a legal action against this development.

"Additionally, the federal funds allocated to states are not being utilized effectively. The mismanagement and misuse of these funds are severely hindering our development and transparency. These resources are intended to improve our lives, yet they vanish without a trace. This must be rectified.

"I call upon the youths of Ondo State to step forward and make their voices heard. Your participation is crucial. Our future hinges on your active involvement. The government must be held accountable to its citizens.

“If they fail in this duty, it is our responsibility to protest. The level of injustice in this country is intolerable, and it is time for substantial change. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere, and we must stand against it.

"The judiciary, which should be the bastion of fairness and justice is currently being questioned due to the lack of transparency and consistency in its judgements. The country is desperately in need of a judiciary that upholds the law and serves the people, not one that enables corruption.”
