It was further noted that women were also not spared from the protests, while they were violently attacked and dispersed.
The Delta State government has been urged to ensure swift investigation into attacks on peaceful protesters in the state.
This was communicated by Comrade Awipi Teduolo, the spokesperson for the Situation Room of the #Endbadgovernance protests in Delta State.
The Situation Room of the #EndBadGovernanceProtest in Delta State noted that it “strongly condemns the brutal attack on peaceful protesters by hoodlums at Enerhen Junction in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.”
They demanded a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the scenarios.
“We demand that the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abiwonda, conduct a thorough and immediate investigation into this incident.”
It was further noted that women were also not spared from the protests, while they were violently attacked and dispersed.
“On the second day of the #EndBadGovernanceProtest, a group of women protesters were violently attacked and dispersed by hoodlums wielding dangerous weapons, including sticks, daggers, cutlasses, knives, and stones.”
“The protesters had gathered peacefully to demonstrate against bad governance in Nigeria, calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's federal government to address food insecurity and hopelessness in the country.”
The statement noted that it took intervention of some police officers for women not to be subjected to further harm.
“Thanks to the prompt intervention of police officers stationed at Enerhen Junction, the women were saved from further harm. However, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.”
The statement demanded that the Police; “Investigate the identity of the group responsible for the attack and bring them to justice."
The group also demanded protection for peaceful protesters while seeking that an an end to violence and intimidation.
