Nigerian Police On Katsina Governor’s Order Detain Peaceful Protesters Over #EndBadGovernance

Some residents of Katsina State have been arrested as operatives of the Nigeria Police Force began clamping down on the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest.

The #EndBadGovernance protest is a nationwide movement in Nigeria, sparked by growing frustration and discontent among citizens over the country’s deteriorating socio-economic conditions, insecurity, and perceived poor leadership.

The protests, led by civil society organisations, youth groups, and opposition parties, aim to demand improved governance and leadership, accountability and transparency, economic reforms and job creation, enhanced security and protection of citizens, and respect for human rights and the rule of law.

Meanwhile, foremost human rights activist and Convener of #RevolutionNow movement, Omoyele Sowore, has called for the release of the protesters.

Sowore in a tweet on his X page urged the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to order the police commissioner in the state to release all detained protesters.

He wrote, " The@Policeng in Katsina is cracking down on peaceful protesters in conjunction with the state Governor. The IG of @PoliceNG

must order the CP of Police in the state to release all detained #EndBadGovernaceInNigeria protesters IMMEDIATELY! #RevolutionNow."

The Katsina State government had on Thursday night, imposed a 24-hour curfew in the Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of the state, and a 7pm to 7am curfew throughout the remaining 33 Local Government Areas of the State.

The acting Governor of the State, Malam Faruk Jobe in a statement signed by the Secretary to State Government, Abdullahi Faskari, also banned unusual gatherings and all types of protests across the state.
