Paris 2024 Olympics: Sowore Blasts Sports Minister For 'Preparing For Failure,’ Calls For His Removal After Nigeria's Medal-less Performance

In a post on his X account on Monday, Sowore, a prominent human rights activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), argued that firing Enoh would be the most effective way for the country to express its discontent with his handling of the sports ministry.

Omoyele Sowore, convener of #RevolutionNow Movement, has demanded the immediate dismissal of Nigeria's Sports Minister, John Owan Enoh, following Team Nigeria's disappointing performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

In a post on his X account on Monday, Sowore, a prominent human rights activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), argued that firing Enoh would be the most effective way for the country to express its discontent with his handling of the sports ministry.

Sowore lambasted the minister for ‘preparing for failure’ during the Olympics, rather than success.

He pointed to the deplorable state of the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja as evidence of the minister's ineptitude, sarcastically noting that Nigeria's lack of investment in sports infrastructure is why the country couldn't even win a 'plastic spoon', let alone a single medal, at the Olympics.

Sowore's scathing critique follows Nigeria's dismal performance at the Olympics, where the country failed to secure any medals.

He wrote, “Any serious country would have fired the Nigerian Minister of Sports, John Owan Enoh @OwanEnoh, even before the #Paris2024 Olympics. The only thing he prepared for during the just-completed Olympics was failure.

“Go to the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja and see the facilities there. You’d understand why Nigeria didn’t win a plastic spoon at the #Paris2024.”

The Nigerian government has labelled Team Nigeria's performance at the Olympics as a "disaster" after failing to secure a single medal.

Similarly, Nigerians have voiced their discontent and disappointment with the team's poor showing, criticising the government's role in the failure.

The widespread disapproval reflects the nation's frustration with the lack of success at the Olympics and the perceived inadequacy of government support for the team.
