The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has withheld results of 215,267 candidates (representing 11.92 percent of the total) in connection with various reported cases of examination malpractice.

This was announced by the examination body via its X handle, urging all the candidates to visit their official website to check their results.
“The West African Examinations Council is pleased to inform Candidates who sat WASSCE for School Candidates, 2024 that the result has officially been released today, Monday, August 12, 2024,” WAEC announced.
A total of 1,814,736 candidates from 25,126 secondary schools across Nigeria registered for the examination, with 1,805,216 taking the exam. As for the results, 1,685,889 candidates (93.39%) have had all their papers processed and released, while 119,327 candidates (6.61%) are still awaiting the processing of some subjects.
According to Amos Josiah Dangut, the head of WAEC Nigeria, the results of 215,267 candidates (11.92% of the total) have been withheld due to alleged examination malpractice.
This represents a 4.37% decrease from the 16.29% recorded in the 2023 WASSCE for school candidates. Meanwhile, a performance analysis reveals that 1,332,089 candidates (73.79%) achieved credits in at least five subjects, including or excluding English and/or Mathematics.
A total of 1,301,941 candidates (representing 72.12 percent) obtained credit and above in a minimum of five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
Year-on-year comparison for this category reveals that the 2024 WASSCE saw a 7.69 percent decrease from the 79.81 percent pass rate recorded in 2023.
Despite the official announcement, thousands of students are facing difficulties in accessing their results as the WAEC website continues to display the message "results yet to be uploaded", leaving them frustrated and uncertain about their performance.
“I’m trying to check my result it’s not working,” one of the students, Mariana Joshua commented.
“It's not yet uploaded on the WAEC website as announced. I just checked,” Adewunmi Oluseye tweeted.
Confirming Adewunmi’s statement, Sly wrote: “Yea you're right. Just checked one now and not on the website yet.”
“I just checked using the exam card but it's still showing no available,” Olayemi Judi said.
