Governor Fintiri expressed the view when he received in audience a delegation of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), led by its president, Ibrahim Musa Gusau in Yola, the state capital on Thursday.
The Adamawa State governor, Ahamadu Fintiri has blamed the "zero medal record" of Team Nigeria at the just concluded Olympics in Paris, France on failure of the Nigerian government.
Governor Fintiri expressed the view when he received in audience a delegation of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), led by its president, Ibrahim Musa Gusau in Yola, the state capital on Thursday.
He noted with dismay the neglect of sports despite its uniting role and economic potentials, but vowed to invest in the sector.
He however admitted that the failure was a collective one as according to him, "states and local governments also share in the monumental failure.
"The country's 'zero medal' outing at the Olympics games in Paris was because of the failure of government to provide the athletes with the requisite facilities to develop their skills," Fintiri said.
The governor assured the NFF delegation of completing an international sports complex in the state by March 2025.
"The state government will invest into the sports industry, hoping to export players of Adamawa origin," Fintiri added.
Earlier, NFF president told the governor that they were in the state to inspect the ongoing construction of a stadium and to encourage him to complete the project.
On why NFF was yet to engage a coach for the national team, Super Eagles, Gusau said, "The process is a long one but I can assure you that very soon we'll name a new coach for the team."
He also disclosed that the female team, Super Falconets players were currently in camp and would be airlifted to Columbia in two weeks time ahead of their featuring in 2024 FIFA Women's World Cup.
The governor was presented with a Super Eagles jersey.
