According to AFP, the bridge, constructed after Russia's annexation of Crimea under President Vladimir Putin's orders, was the focal point of the attack.
Russian officials announced on Friday that they had successfully defended against a nighttime assault on the Crimea bridge, which was targeted by 12 US-made missiles.
According to AFP, the bridge, constructed after Russia's annexation of Crimea under President Vladimir Putin's orders, was the focal point of the attack.
“Air defences were used last night to deflect a group strike by 12 ATACMS missiles made in the US on the Crimean bridge. All the missiles were destroyed,” the defence ministry said in a statement.
The bridge which was targeted was opened in 2018 by Putin.
It connects Kerch in Crimea with southern Russia’s Krasnodar region.
Before now, Kyiv has launched multiple attacks, while also attempting attacks on the Kerch Bridge since Moscow began its military offensive in February 2022.
Crimea is a well targeted area amid the Russia, Ukrainian conflict.
Russia’s defence ministry said earlier Friday that helicopters had destroyed five naval drones in the Black Sea heading for Crimea.
Also in June, the Kremlin warned the United States of “consequences” and summoned its ambassador after Moscow said a Ukrainian strike with a US missile on Crimea’s Sevastopol killed four people.
