President Bola Tinubu has approved the takeover and conversion of Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital in Lafia, Nasarawa State to Federal University of Lafia Teaching Hospital.
In a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale on Wednesday, Tinubu stated that the conversion of the health facility to a federal teaching hospital will enhance the training of students in medical and allied sciences, and also boost healthcare delivery in the state.
According to the statement, the President’s decision was based on an earlier request by the Nasarawa State government.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the takeover and conversion of Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia, to the Federal University of Lafia Teaching Hospital, Nasarawa, following a request by the Nasarawa State Government.
“The conversion of the health facility to a federal teaching hospital will not only enhance the training of students in medical and allied sciences but also boost healthcare delivery in the state.
“President Tinubu remains committed to ensuring the social welfare and healthcare security of Nigerians and will aggressively sustain his administration’s investment drive and efforts in the sector,” the statement read.
The Nasarawa State House of Assembly in 2022 approved the ceding of Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia to the Federal Government to serve as the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Lafia.
Speaker of the House, Ibrahim Abdullahi, disclosed this during the House proceedings after the Majority Leader, Tanko Tunga, read Governor Abdullahi Sule’s request letter for the ceding of DASH to the Federal Government.
“The Honourable Speaker is already aware of the concerted efforts being made by the government and relevant stakeholders towards the establishment of the Federal University Teaching Hospital and its location in Lafia, the state capital,” Tunga said.
