Recently, the country’s purchase of a new aircraft said to cost N150 billion has led to controversies especially coming at a time where there are calls for cut in the cost of governance.

A review of data from the Open Treasury Portal of the Nigerian government has shown that the sum of N15.9 billion was spent on Aircrafts maintenance and fueling in the first six months of 2024.

 

The figures were broken down into N9 billion for maintenance of Aircraft’s and another N6.9 billion for fuelling of the aircrafts.

 

There have been controversies overttime on the expenditure of the country on its Presidential aircrafts.

 

Reports had noted that the country spends $1 billion annually on aircrafts maintenance.

 

Recently, the country’s purchase of a new aircraft said to cost N150 billion has led to controversies especially coming at a time where there are calls for cut in the cost of governance.

 

There have also been concerns on the spate of travels by Nigerian presidents and leaders, a development that aggravates the cost incurred in maintenance and fueling for this purpose.

 

Nigeria is currently heavily indebted and grapples to fund its budget, a development that has hastened the call for more prudence in governance and the cost of governance.
