Confirming the arrest, the state police command's spokesman, DSP Alabor Alfred, stated that the suspect is currently under investigation at the anti-kidnapping unit.

A suspected kidnapper has been apprehended by residents of the Nepa community in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State after allegedly collecting a ransom of N1.5 million from the relatives of his victims.

Confirming the arrest, the state police command's spokesman, DSP Alabor Alfred, stated that the suspect is currently under investigation at the anti-kidnapping unit.

Daily Trust reports that a vigilante in the Nepa community, who requested anonymity, revealed that the suspect was apprehended by residents and promptly handed over to the local vigilantes.

He said the suspect was then transferred to Laranto Police Station.

"The kidnapper had abducted two children, one aged four and the other five. Despite receiving a ransom of N1.5 million, he didn't release them immediately.

"The next day, he returned to the vacant building where he was holding the children. Passersby heard the kids crying and rushed to the building. As they arrived, the kidnapper, who was with the children, attempted to escape by jumping out of a window," the vigilante said.

However, the community quickly responded to the shouts of 'Kidnapper,' and a large crowd of men and women apprehended him.

The residents subsequently apprehended him and handed him over to local vigilantes, who then took him into custody and transported him to Laranto Police Station. The vigilantes also recovered N1,492,000 of the ransom money he had extorted from the victims' families, which was presented as evidence.
