SaharaReporters earlier reported that NiDCOM had petitioned Honourable Patrick Brown, Mayor of Brampton, Canada, regarding the case.

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) Dr Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has disclosed that Nigerians in Canade have taken up the case of inciteful comments made by Amaka Patience Sunnberger, a Nigerian in the North American country, with the authorities.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that NiDCOM had petitioned Honourable Patrick Brown, Mayor of Brampton, Canada, regarding the case.

According to the petition, Sunnberger has issued threats to poison and kill members of the Yoruba and Edo ethnic communities.

In the letter dated August 28, 2024 addressed to the mayor, Dabiri-Erewa disclosed that Amaka Patience Sunnberger is a disability support worker in Brampton.

Erewa stated that it is worrisome that someone who works with one of the most vulnerable demographics in society made such a comment, adding that she may pose a danger to the vulnerable people she works with and needs to be investigated, checked, and stopped for the good of society.

She, therefore, called for Amaka’s investigation.

In a fresh post on Thursday, Dabiri-Erewa said Nigerians in Canada had also taken up the case.

She said, “As long as I am Chair @nidcom_gov and diaspora issues are reported to us we will deal with it. As I speak Nigerians in Canada have taken the matter up with the relevant authorities.”

A source told SaharaReporters that the police in Canada had invited Amaka Patience Sunnberger for threatening to poison and kill Yoruba and Edo people in a viral video.

“They are really moving in on her. She's been invited by the police,” the source told SaharaReporters.

In the video, Sunnberger called for the poisoning of food and water sources as a means of mass killing and encouraged people from the South-East region of Nigeria or Igbo people, to adopt a militant stance against Yoruba and Benin communities in other regions.

Earlier, SaharaReporters reported that the Nigerian House of Representatives had submitted a formal petition to His Excellency James Christoff, the High Commissioner of Canada to Nigeria, concerning Amaka.

The petition, dated August 28, 2024, was filed by Mr. Biodun Omoleye, Chairman of the Nigeria-Canada Parliamentary Friendship Group, and Mr. Tochukwu Chinedu Okere, Chairman of the House Committee on Diaspora Matters.

However, despite the backlash, Amaka in a video on Thursday, denied any arrest, confidently declaring that nothing would happen to her because she is a Canadian citizen.

She boasted about her immunity from any repercussions, dismissing rumours of her arrest and potential deportation.

Speaking during a TikTok live session, she said, “Somebody just sent me a message saying they have arrested me and are about to deport me. With my passport? I am a Canadian. Mad people!”
