Nwapa said that the police chief’s invitation of the labour leader to merely question him on why he was living in the outskirts of Abuja, Nigeria’s capital is a proof that he is merely a puppet in the hands of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and that he is not concerned about the escalating insecurity in the country.
Human rights and revolutionary activist, Francis Nwapa, has lambasted the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for inviting the President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, to Police headquarters, Abuja for questioning on why he is living on the outskirts of Abuja.
The activist said this in a series of posts on his X account on Thursday while reacting to a SaharaReporters’ story on the details of the meeting between the police and Ajaero on Thursday when he honoured the police invitation over alleged terrorism financing and other allegations.
SaharaReporters earlier exclusively reported that during Thursday's meeting between police and Ajaero's legal team, led by Femi Falana (SAN), security operatives failed to produce evidence linking Ajaero to terrorism.
Instead, they cited his residence on Abuja's outskirts as a reason for suspicion, implying it was unusual given that he could afford to live in posh areas in the Federal Capital Territory.
Falana’s team countered, questioning if living outside affluent areas constitutes a crime in Nigeria. The police were reportedly baffled, downplaying the issue's severity and stating that Ajaero's presence wasn't necessary.
They then alleged that a British Russian funded detained #EndBadGovernance protesters, but the legal team challenged this, asking if protesting or sponsoring protests is illegal.
In his reaction, Nwapa said, “The IG of @PoliceNG has demonstrated again how jobless and unconcerned he and the police are towards the escalating insecurity in Nigeria by officially inviting the @NLCHeadquarters president just for a mere asking him why he was living in the outskirts of Abuja.
“Egbedukun has proven to be a puppet of @NuhuRibadu under the command of @officialABAT.
“It only shows there are no material evidences to charge Comrade Joe Ajaero or Michael Adaramoye Lenin, Mosiu Sodiq, Eleojo Opaluwa, Angel Innocent, Abayomi Abiodun and all abducted and detained #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protesters.
“We demand their immediate and unconditional release Now! Egbedukun should make use of his time in locating Yahaya Bello, bandits brandishing weapons and ransom on TikTok.
“The police should stop the senseless killings of Nigerians by criminals. He should also give an account of over 40 protesters killed during the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest.”
