Prof. Odinkalu, who said this in a post on his X account said that under President Tinubu/All Progressives Congress (APC) government, whatever Nigerians choose, they can choose to die by insecurity or by hunger.

Human rights lawyer and former Chairman of Nigeria's National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, has said that the only way Nigerians can renew their hope under President Bola Tinubu-led Nigerian government is to die.

Prof. Odinkalu, who said this in a post on his X account said that under President Tinubu/All Progressives Congress (APC) government, whatever Nigerians choose, they can choose to die by insecurity or by hunger.

According to the law Professor, if Nigerians choose to protest against either the President or the President and the APC, they can die by hanging for treason, but in all, death is the only way Nigerians cover all bases under Tinubu's government.

He said that there has been suffering and starvation for Nigerians since Tinubu became the President.

He wrote, “Under @officialABAT & @OfficialAPCNg, whatever u choose, the only way to renew your hope is to die.

“You can choose to die by insecurity or by hunger. If you choose to protest against either or both, you can die by hanging for treason. That's how you cover all bases!”

Odinkalu’s statement comes amid nationwide outcry and mass protests against acute hunger, hardship and bad governance under President Tinubu.

However, rather than address the nationwide outcry and agitations of Nigerians amid steady rise in cost of living, Tinubu-led government has come down heavily on the protesters, killing many protesters, injuring several others including journalists during the recent August 1-10 #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria nationwide protests.

Currently, over 120 Nigerians who are being detained in various security detention facilities across the country are facing treason charge trials while at least 10 Nigerians have been sent to prison over the hunger protests.

Amid the excruciating hunger and hardship with the World Bank ranking Nigeria among the top three debtors globally, and the current fuel pump price at N859 by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Nigerians are massacred in their numbers across the nation by bandits, armed herdsmen, Boko Haram and other insurgents, while farms are being destroyed.

Meanwhile, President Tinubu said that his government is built on the Renewed Hope Agenda of a transformative policy aimed at repositioning Nigeria as a prime global investment destination and rescuing over 133 million Nigerians living in multidimensional poverty.
