The former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has lambasted Bola Tinubu’s administration for imposing death sentences on harmless protesters amid the ongoing violence in Northern Nigeria.

Atiku stated that despite the tragic bloodshed in Yobe, which has claimed numerous lives, and the widespread destruction across several villages in Katsina, Sokoto, and other towns in the North-West and North-Central regions, the government appears to remain detached and preoccupied with inconsequential matters.

In a statement made on Thursday on his X handle, Atiku disclosed that the turmoil extends to the South as well, where the disquiet caused by Boko Haram and the unsettling political discord threaten the nation’s peace.

He said that amidst these grave challenges, the Federal Government is preoccupied with stifling dissent and resorting to draconian measures, such as imposing death sentences on protesters.

He explained that the atrocity in Yobe is a stark testament to the failure of the current security framework and demands immediate and comprehensive reform.

"My heart goes out to the victims of these horrific attacks, and I fervently implore the Tinubu administration to demonstrate a heightened commitment to safeguarding life and property across the nation," he added.

SaharaReporters had earlier reported that terrorists stormed Mafa village in the Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State, killing several residents.

It was gathered that the heavily armed terrorists looted valuable goods, and burnt several houses.

The incident occurred two days after terrorists killed three students at Faudiya School in the Geidam Local Government Area, of Yobe State.
