The GCSDN has criticized President Tinubu's actions, or rather inactions, as a stark demonstration of his administration's apparent lack of compassion and empathy for the victims and their families.
The Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria (GCSDN) has strongly condemned President Bola Tinubu's decision to remain in China amidst a devastating terrorist attack in Yobe State, which resulted in the tragic loss of at least 34 innocent lives.
This incident, reported by SaharaReporters, occurred in Mafa village, Tarmuwa Local Government Area, where dozens of residents fell victim to the brutal assault perpetrated by terrorists.
The Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) has claimed responsibility for the heinous attack, highlighting the escalating security concerns plaguing the region.
The GCSDN has criticized President Tinubu's actions, or rather inactions, as a stark demonstration of his administration's apparent lack of compassion and empathy for the victims and their families.
By choosing to stay abroad during this critical moment, President Tinubu's response has been perceived as woefully inadequate, sparking widespread outrage and disappointment among Nigerians.
Tinubu concluded his official visit to the People's Republic of China on Friday, culminating in an interactive session with members of the Nigerian diaspora community in Beijing.
During this gathering, he addressed the recent fuel price increase, acknowledging the hardship it imposes on citizens while emphasizing the necessity of this decision as a pivotal step towards comprehensive reforms aimed at revitalizing Nigeria's economy.
The GCSDN's statement underscores the growing concerns regarding the government's commitment to addressing the country's pressing security challenges.
Comrade Frederick Odorige, coordinator of the group in a statement on Sunday, urged the government to take decisive steps towards fighting insecurity.
According to him, one way to do this is to stop politicizing it.
He asserted that huge sums of monies are being budgeted for security without accountability, stressing that the office of the National Security Adviser must audit how monthly security votes are being spent by various state governments.
According to the statement, Nigeria security forces have been casualties of terrorist attacks due to the lack of political will to end terrorism.
The statement reads in part, "The recent mass murder and burial of our Muslim compatriots in Yobe state is yet another testimony that the insecurity in Nigeria is not yet a priority of the Tinubu administration. The courage to stay back in China after the news of the killing of 34 of us, clearly indicate that Tinubu is an uncompassionate and very insensitive leader.
"I hope that Nigerians will learn that elections should not be about voting for candidates based on religion and tribe. As if to make a mockery of the tragedy, presidential aides were busy sharing videos and pictures of Tinubu in China whenever he had a handshake.
"A president that knows his responsibility ought to have cut short his visit to China. If he could cut his visit to France and return to Abuja to swear in the Chief Justice of the federation, what stopped him from returning home to commiserate with the affected families of Yobe state and to arrest the terrorists?
"Why are peaceful protesters charged with so-called treasonable felony when terrorists are paid ransoms and hardly arrested? The present economic hardship is the result of the inability of our people to farm safely. A country where citizens pay taxes to terrorists will remain hungry and in hostage.
"It is not enough that after every attack on Nigerians, the spokesperson for the president simply expresses condolences. China will not keep silent when 34 of her citizens are killed by terrorists.
“Tinubu left China and continued his journey to the United Kingdom, feeling unconcerned about the many problems back home. As the self-appointed minister of petroleum, he is not bothered by the increased prices of fuel and the scarcity.
“Recall that Tinubu attended the commissioning of the airport which was renamed after him in Niger state in March 2024 at a time when over 130 school children in neighbouring Kaduna state where in the den of kidnappers. This is not leadership.
“Will Tinubu go to sleep if his biological children are in kidnappers’ dens? Those that fondly call Tinubu the father of the nation must have a rethink. If the killing and kidnapping of Nigerians will continue as an accepted tradition, it means that the primary purpose of government has been completely defeated. Those who are desperate to be in government should equally be desperate to provide welfare and security as mandated by the constitution.”
"Senate President Godswill Akpabio said that Nigeria was experiencing insecurity due to the previous national anthem. Now that they reverted to the colonial national anthem of their dream, has the insecurity ended? Those in position of authority must learn to speak responsibly,” it added.
