Five-Year-Old Girl Killed, Four Others Seriously Injured In Anambra Auto Crash

The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the incident to journalists in a statement in Awka, the state capital, said the accident occurred at 7:15am on Wednesday.

 

A five-year-old girl whose identity has not been revealed has been confirmed dead while four others were seriously injured in an auto crash that occurred in the Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State on Wednesday morning.

 

The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the incident to journalists in a statement in Awka, the state capital, said the accident occurred at 7:15am on Wednesday.

 

The police spokesperson said that preliminary information revealed that the accident occurred along Onitsha-Enugu Old Road by Oye Agu Junction Abagana, when a Toyota Sienna vehicle carrying passengers en route to Lagos, had a brake failure and rammed into traders selling by the roadside at Oye Agu Junction. 

 

Reacting to the accident, Ikenga said the state police commissioner, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, cautioned drivers/transporters to always do the necessary checks on their vehicle before driving.

 

Ikenga said, “The CP while condoling with the family of the deceased directs the arrest and interrogation of the driver. 

“To this end, the vehicle has been recovered at the station as the investigation is ongoing.”
