The arrest occurred on Tuesday, and sources have confirmed the incident.

A suspected political thug, Agogo Daniel, has been arrested by the police in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government of Edo State, with firearms with barely two weeks to the state governorship election.

In a confessional video obtained by SaharaReporters, Daniel who was arrested by a team of policemen on stop-and-search operation, claimed that the weapons were allegedly given to him by Dr. Kelly Inedegbor, the Council Chairman.

According to Daniel, Inedegbor, a medical doctor, provided him and others with guns to protect him during a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign rally in the council area.

The arrest occurred on Tuesday, and sources have confirmed the incident.

The development raised concerns about the involvement of local government officials in arming political thugs and the potential for violence in the upcoming elections.

The confessional video, a security source shared with SaharaReporters on Thursday, showed the suspect visibly tortured with bloodstains in one of his eyes.

In the three minutes 58 seconds video, the suspect is overheard saying; "I am Agogo Daniel, from Uromi here. The gun is two and Kelly, the local government chairman gave it to us to go for rally. He gave it to us to take guide him. He gave it to us in the afternoon for this rally that took place today."

When asked why he didn't return the gun after the rally, he said "After rally I went to a hotel and we shared money and after I had a fling with a sex worker, hoping that I would return the gun after that."

On how much he got after the sharing of the money, he said "My share is N9,000.”

On who gave them the bullet, he said "the local government boys; they work for Kelly, supplied it to us. The name of one of them is Noel. They gave us two pump action gun and cut-to-size two, including the one given to me and another to one Kingsley."

Meanwhile, SaharaReporters’ efforts to get reaction from the Edo State Police Command were unsuccessful as the Command's spokesperson SP Chidi Nwabuzor did not take his calls.

As at the time of filing this report, he had yet to respond to a text message seeking clarification.
