One Year After Mohbad's Death: Social Media Critics Seek Governor Sanwo-Olu’s Intervention In Family Crisis, Lament Bloggers’ Interference
September 12, 2024

The death of 27-year-old artiste has remained a mystery.

As friends and fans hold one-year remembrance prayers for Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, social media critics have called on Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to intervene in the late singer’s family crisis, decrying undue interference in Mohbad’s family matter by bloggers and some social media influencers.

A popular social media critic, Ibrahim Koleosho, asked bloggers who, according to him, are profiting from the crisis in the Aloba family, to desist from disrespecting the soul of the late singer.

Koleosho, while announcing the activities for the one-year remembrance of Mohbad by friends and fans, said the best thing Nigerians and the family can do for the soul of the late singer is to lay him to rest.

He said Mohbad’s friends and fans would mark the late singer’s one-year remembrance with underprivileged persons in Lagos.

He urged Governor Sanwo-Olu to intervene in the prolonged crisis between Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, Mohbad’s mother and his wife, Wunmi, as that could go a long way in getting justice for the soul of the late singer.

Koleosho said, “We celebrate the life of the late Ilerioluwa Aloba (Mohbad). It is exactly one year today that we lost him.

“The circumstances surrounding his death still remain a sad reminder of how life is ephemeral. And it is very sad that the soul of such a talent is still in the morgue, a year after his controversial death.

“As we remember his death, we seek justice for the soul of Mohbad. We also seek peace within the family.

“As far as I am concerned, nobody is a winner until Mohbad's body is laid to rest. That is the most important thing that could be done for his soul.

“Governor Sanwo-Olu should help set up a reconciliation committee that would ensure peace within the Aloba family.

“Those profiting from the crisis within the deceased family should stop disrespecting the soul of the late singer.”

He further noted that the Lagos State House of Assembly had once promised to look into the late singer's musical deals and see how royalties would be paid to his family.

Koleosho said, “All these are still pending and yet Mohbad's body is yet to be buried.”

He called on the Aloba family to unite and stay away from online bloggers that are bent on making money from the family.

“That is the best way to restore peace and respect the memory of the late singer," he said.

Koleosho also cautioned actor Yomi Fabiyi and actress Iyabo Ojo against what he described as trivialisation of Mohbad's case, saying, “It was done with the Baba Ijesha's alleged rape saga” and that “that could only cause more crisis than resolving the issue.”

Mohbad, a former signee of Naira Marley record label, died on September 12, 2023 at the age of 27.

The death of 27-year-old artiste has remained a mystery.

The Lagos Coroner's Court, presided over by Magistrate T.A. Sotobi, is investigating the cause of his death.
