At least 100 people were killed in Lebanon as Israel conducted its largest wave of airstrikes against Hezbollah targets on Monday.
Lebanon's health ministry confirmed the casualties, with over 400 people injured, including women, children, and medics. The strikes came after a series of cross-border exchanges between Israel and Hezbollah, following Hezbollah's support for Hamas in Gaza, Reuters reports.
"We are deepening our attacks in Lebanon, the actions will continue until we achieve our goal to return the northern residents safely to their homes," Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant said in a video published by his office on Monday.
He urged the Israeli public to "show composure."
Hezbollah responded to the airstrikes by launching rockets at Israeli military posts, while Israel targeted multiple Hezbollah positions across Lebanon, including southern regions, the Bekaa Valley, and areas near Syria.
Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee stated on X that more than 300 Hezbollah targets had been hit. He said the airstrikes were aimed at houses where "Hezbollah hid weapons."
Lebanon's telecoms network detected over 80,000 automated evacuation calls on Monday, said Imad Kreidieh, head of Ogero. He described the calls as "psychological warfare to create havoc and chaos."
Residents across Lebanon, including the capital Beirut, received warnings to evacuate areas near Hezbollah posts. Despite this, Lebanon's information minister Ziad Makary dismissed the calls as part of a psychological war.
Meanwhile, residents expressed fear of a full-scale conflict.
"If Hezbollah carries out a major operation, Israel will respond and destroy more than this," said Joseph Ghafary, a state employee in Beirut.
