Josephine asserted that the walkie talkie in question could be part of a batch of three (3) walkie talkies that went missing last year in Gwagwalada Division.

The Nigerian Police, Federal Capital Territory Command, has called for more evidence as a video footage emerged on social media, where police officers allegedly extorted a motorist and left their walkie talkie in his vehicle in Abuja.

Ahmed Isah, the host of a radio show, Brekete Family, in the video had accused the police officers of extorting a motorist who was on his way to buy fuel.

He said after so much negotiation, the officers agreed and collected the sum of N1000 from the motorist, while they left their walkie talkie in the vehicle after collecting the money.

However, Josephine Adeh, Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Police Command, in a statement on Monday described the claim as unverified, noting that there was no corroboration of such.

She said that the command communications department has confirmed that all walkie talkies currently in use within the Territory (FCT) are accounted for, with no recent reports of any missing devices.

Josephine asserted that the walkie talkie in question could be part of a batch of three (3) walkie talkies that went missing last year in Gwagwalada Division.

The statement reads in part; "The attention of the FCT Police Command has been drawn to a video making rounds on social media, where it was claimed that police officers attempting to extorty a motorist allegedly left their walkie talkie in his vehicle.

"While we take such allegations seriously, we wish to emphasize the importance of verifying facts before making public accusations. The anchor of the programme that broadcasted this information should have deemed it fit to contact police authorities directly for clarification or to report the matter, rather than disseminating unverified claims especially as there was no corroboration of such.

"It is worth noting that the walkie talkie in question may be part of a batch of three (3) walkie talkies that went missing last year in Gwagwalada Division, and reported via police wireless message no AJ:1160/GWG/FCT/ABJ/VOL.1/03 dated 16th February, 2023. Our Communications Department has confirmed that all walkie talkies currently in use within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are accounted for, with no recent reports of any missing devices.

"In light of this, the Police Command urges the programme anchor and the motorist involved to kindly come forward with any relevant information and the walkie talkie in question as the individual’s cooperation would be crucial in assisting the Police with uncovering the facts of this matter and ensuring a thorough investigation.”

"The FCT Police Command remains committed to accountability and transparency in its operations and urges all residents to work with us in promoting justice and truth," the statement added.
