Police Operatives In Anambra Arrest Two Suspects Who Concealed Gunpowder In Three Bags Of ‘Garri

The Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who made this known in a statement made available to journalists in Awka, the state capital on Wednesday said that the joint security force arrested the suspects while on intelligence-driven routine patrol along the pillar-pole area of Aguata Local Government Area of the state on Sunday.


The Anambra State Police Command has said that the police-led joint security forces in the state have arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered one locally-made pistol, live ammunition and a large quantity of gunpowder concealed in a bag of cassava flakes, popularly known as garri.
The Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who made this known in a statement made available to journalists in Awka, the state capital on Wednesday said that the joint security force arrested the suspects while on intelligence-driven routine patrol along the pillar-pole area of Aguata Local Government Area of the state on Sunday.
The police spokesperson said the security operatives intercepted a suspect who he did not reveal his name, carrying three bags of Garri. 
“The operatives upon search of the suspect discovered beneath the edible a large quantity of gunpowder. Preliminary information reveals that the suspect was en route to a criminal camp to deliver groceries for consumption and the gunpowder for production of Improvised Explosives for the gang. 
“The suspect is currently in custody and assisting the Police to arrest the other gang members,” he said.
Ikenga added that in another development, operatives of the Special Anti-Cultism Squad (SPACS) acting on credible information stormed a criminal hideout in Oba in Idemili South Local Government Area of the state in the early hours of Wednesday and arrested one Nelson Wisdom from Etsako East area of Edo State and recover one locally fabricated pistol with two live ammunition. 
He said “The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, reiterates that the Police Command and Other security agencies will continue to act on information to sustain the onslaught of Operation and to frustrate evil plans of the criminal elements in the State. 
“All suspects shall be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.”
