In a statement he signed on behalf of the legal team, Ejimakor said, “Today, in violation of subsisting court orders and the constitution, the DSS blocked the Legal Team of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from meeting with him at the detention facility.

The legal team of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, on Friday raised an alarm over denial of access to their client by the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja.

The legal team led by Kanu’s Special lawyer, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, said that DSS in violation of court orders and 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, blocked them from meeting with Kanu on Friday when they visited him at the secret police’s custody.

In a statement he signed on behalf of the legal team, Ejimakor said, “Today, in violation of subsisting court orders and the constitution, the DSS blocked the Legal Team of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from meeting with him at the detention facility.

“All four of us came into the premises of DSS to meet with our client today to discuss what happened in court on 24th on the way forward on his case, but we were not allowed by the DSS to meet with our client.
“We came by a few minutes to 2pm and till now, which is some minutes to 5pm, we have not been allowed to meet with our client. We have our suspicions.

“Our suspicion which is credible is that the DSS and the federal government of Nigeria are not happy that our client requested the judge handling this matter to withdraw from handling the case.

“If not this reason, what other reason could explain this unconstitutional behaviour of preventing lawyers from meeting with their client who is under trial?

“We need the world to know that this thing furthers what the government of the day or the DSS has been doing that actually complicated the trial of this case that culminated in our client being frustrated and losing confidence in the judge who was handling this case and which resulted on the 24th September in our client requesting the judge should withdraw.

“It appears that the DSS has cancelled all future visitations to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu as a retaliation against Mazi Nnamdi Kanu ‘for chasing away Justice Binta Nyako from the case and causing her embarrassment’.

“What this means is that the DSS, acting on behalf of the federal government of Nigeria, has unlawfully isolated Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from his lawyers, thus making his solitary confinement absolute.

“I don't know when next, if ever, it may be possible to see Mazi Nnamdi Kanu again.”
