‘Beverly Hills Cop’ Actor, John Ashton, Dies At 76

John Ashton, renowned for his iconic role in the Beverly Hills Cop franchise, has passed away at 76. 

His manager, Alan Somers, confirmed to Us Weekly that Ashton died on Thursday, September 26, in Fort Collins, Colorado.

“John leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and service. His memory will forever be treasured by his wife, children, grandchildren, as well as his brother, sisters, his extended family and all who loved him,” Somers told Us on Sunday, September 29. “John’s impact on the world will be remembered and celebrated for generations to come.”

Ashton left an indelible mark on Hollywood. He famously portrayed Detective Sergeant John Taggart alongside Eddie Murphy's iconic character Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop (1984), Beverly Hills Cop II (1987) and Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F (2024).

Ashton's character evolved from detective sergeant to police chief in the latest installment. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F follows Axel Foley's quest to protect his daughter and former partner from a sinister plot. 

The film reunites Ashton with original cast members Judge Reinhold and Bronson Pinchot, while welcoming Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Kevin Bacon.

Ashton frequently expressed his passion for the franchise on his personal website, long before the fourth film's release. His enthusiasm and dedication to the series have made his character an integral part of its enduring success.
