Ndume called on President Bola Tinubu to temporarily hire the services of “military contractors” to wipe out the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State.

As Nigeria continues to grapple with challenges in its security sector, the Senator representing Borno South, Mohammed Ali Ndume, has opined that the country should employ services of mercenaries.

Ndume called on President Bola Tinubu to temporarily hire the services of “military contractors” to wipe out the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State.

While hailing the performance of the military and Civilian JTF, he opined that both are not well equipped to carry out the task of eliminating the remaining insurgents who operate within.

“All across the world, governments hire the services of military contractors to engage in certain places. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu can consider this as a short measure.” he was quoted in a statement on Wednesday.

“These contractors will work with our military and Civilian JTF, who understand the terrain.”

He noted that the contractors would come with their own equipment thus tackling the issue of dearth in military equipment.

“These contractors will come with their equipment and military hardware. In a very short time, they’ll eliminate those Boko Haram terrorists. The contractors can also be used to eliminate those bandits operating in the North West.”

He stated that the action could help the government increase the number of soldiers in the country increase to a million, as youths will be added to the force.

“Over a period, the federal government can now recruit youths to join the military and raise the number to at least one million. But in the interim, I think the President should consider this option of hiring military contractors,” Ndume said in the statement.

He made the comments following the attack of Boko Haram terrorists in Ngoshe, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno, where they slaughtered six farmers and abducted five others including women.

Different governments have continued to promise end to insecurity but have failed to do so with killings, kidnappings among others as challenges facing the country.
