The President of the Church of the Brethren, also called EYN, Rev (Dr.) Daniel Yusuf Mbaya has confirmed that Rev Vincent Alaku died while conducting Sunday service in Borno State.
Dr. Mbaya confirmed the incident to SaharaReporters on Monday, saying, "Yes, it’s true. Rev Vincent Alaku died in Maiduguri yesterday."
Rev Alaku reportedly slummed and died while administering holy communion, according eye witnesses who attended the service.
The incident happened at the EYN Church Moduganari branch in Maiduguri, the state capital.
Congregants were said to have been thrown into confusion watching the pastor slump.
"It felt so dramatic to watch my pastor fell and died on the spot. Well, from God he came and to God he returned. May the Lord repose his soul," a church member, Bulus Marne, said.
SaharaReporters earlier reported how social media tributes had flooded in, with church members and colleagues mourning the loss of their beloved pastor.
The District Church Secretary of Church Brethren of Nigeria, Timothy Hammajam, shared his condolences on Facebook, saying, “KBC DCM 2003 graduating class will ever miss your elderly and prophetic words. May God comfort EYN and your family.”
