The ministry said the casualty figure was preliminary as rescuers were still searching for survivors under the rubble.

An Israeli air strike on a residential building in Damascus on Tuesday reportedly killed seven civilians including children and women, the Syrian defence ministry said.

The ministry said the casualty figure was preliminary as rescuers were still searching for survivors under the rubble.

AFP quoted the ministry as saying, "The Israeli enemy launched an aerial aggression... targeting a residential and commercial building in the densely populated Mazzeh neighbourhood of Damascus killing seven civilians, including children and women."

It was reported that at least 11 others were also wounded in the attack that caused widespread destruction in the neighbourhood, which was known to be busy at the time of the attack.

Al Jazeera reports that Syria’s official SANA news agency earlier reported the attack on the area which is home to security headquarters and embassies.
