Justice Nwite in the ruling on Tuesday validated the Abure-led leadership of the party.

The Chairman of the Labour Party Caretaker Committee, Senator Nenadi Usman, has announced the decision of the party to appeal against the court judgement recognising Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the party.

Earlier on Tuesday, SaharaReporters reported that Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja had ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise Abure as the substantive national chairman of the party.

Justice Nwite in the ruling on Tuesday validated the Abure-led leadership of the party.

He also validated the March 2024 Nnewi convention of the party that produced the national leadership, while issuing an order compelling INEC to recognise the leadership.

However, in statement shared on her X handle on Tuesday evening, in reaction of the ruling, Senator Usman announced that at a meeting with former presidential candidate of the party, Mr. Peter Obi, Abia State Governor, Mr Alex Otti, and Senator Darlington Nwokocha, Secretary, LP Caretaker Committee, they resolved to appeal against the judgement.

She explained that the case preceded the formation of the Caretaker Committee, noting that after the committee was briefed, it decided to join the case.

She said, "This evening, I met with His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi, His Excellency Governor Alex Otti, and Senator Darlington Nwokocha (Secretary, LP Caretaker Committee).

"We deliberated on the judgment passed today. The case actually preceded the formation of the Caretaker Committee.

"However, after being briefed, the Caretaker Committee decided to join the case.

"Consequently, we have resolved to appeal the judgment accordingly.

"I, therefore, call on all party members to remain calm and maintain peace as we continue our reconciliation efforts."
