Zelensky Meets UK Prime Minister To Seek Permission To Use Supplied Missiles In Russian Territory
October 10, 2024

The meeting comes amid ongoing concerns about the conflict's escalation and the use of Western-supplied missiles, Mail Online reports.

Keir Starmer is meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at Downing Street today (Thursday), as the Ukrainian leader continues his tour of Western countries, seeking further support for the fight against Russia.

The meeting comes amid ongoing concerns about the conflict's escalation and the use of Western-supplied missiles, MailOnline reports.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak greeted Zelensky warmly on the steps of No. 10, signaling continued backing for Ukraine. NATO’s new Secretary-General, Mark Rutte, is also expected to join the talks.

The agenda includes a focus on Mr. Zelensky’s 'victory plan' and the possible use of British Storm Shadow missiles.

“Broad strategic discussions on UK and allied support for Ukraine during a crucial period” are expected, according to Sir Keir’s official spokesman.

Mr. Zelensky’s visit to No. 10 is his second since Sir Keir came to power. Last month, Zelensky addressed a special cabinet meeting.

Discussions today are seen as pivotal, particularly with the UK's caution over allowing the use of Western missiles within Russian borders.

Zelensky has previously stated that he feels like he is “fighting with his hands tied” without full missile support. While signs of a breakthrough were evident last month, talks have stalled amid threats from Vladimir Putin.

The UK government maintains that its position on Storm Shadow missiles has not changed, Downing Street confirmed. The issue of missile use remains delicate as Western leaders consider the risks of escalation.

On Wednesday, Zelensky signed a cooperation agreement with Croatia on defense industries after attending a summit in Croatia with Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic.

Meanwhile, a meeting between Sir Keir and the leaders of France, Germany, and the US was postponed due to President Joe Biden addressing the aftermath of Hurricane Milton.
